Mental Health Awareness Week

Events — Mental Health Awareness Week

14/05/2018 until 20/05/2018

The Friary Guildford are supporting Mental Health Awareness Week (14 – 20 May), to raise awareness of mental health issues and help strengthen the ability to handle the pressures of stress and everyday life. By tackling stress, we can go a long way to keep mental health problems at bay.

Monday, 14 May

We will be attending the University of Surrey on Monday, 14 May to watch three Tedx talks on exam stress, eating disorders and mental health.

Wednesday, 16 May

The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will be at the centre with information on mental health. You’ll have the opportunity to talk to health professionals and receive invaluable information on combating mental health and any fears you may have. A Surrey University student nurse will also be on hand to take your blood pressure.

Relaxing after a long or stressful day is key, and scents are a great way of doing so. Muji have a wide range of essential oils and aroma diffusers for customers of different needs, and they will be showcasing them on mall for you to choose your favourite. Muji staff will be on hand to inform customers of the benefits of each fragrance.

Sunday, 20 May

On Sunday, 20 May The Friary Guildford will be holding FREE Yoga and Mindfulness Taster workshops run by Amy, owner of Breathe Calm Yoga and Mindfulness. These short, practical workshops offer a chance for beginners to experience the positive effect yoga and mindfulness practice can have on mental and emotional balance.

The yoga workshops combine gentle movement & breathing to release tension and calm the nervous system. The mindfulness workshops offer an opportunity to explore different practices, including mindfulness meditation & techniques to find calm in times of stress.

Yoga: 12:00pm – 1:00pm

Spencer Counselling

Come and meet Maria and Andy at The Friary Guildford on Sunday, 20 May who will be giving a free talk on giving and receiving psychological strokes.

A psychological stroke is the attention and recognition that another person gives us and these can be positive, negative, verbal, non-verbal or Action (the things we do for each other).

We all have parts that we like and don’t like about ourselves and part of being mentally healthy is about liking ourselves the majority of the time.

In the workshop Andy and Maria will talk about how people receive and give out messages to others and ourselves and how you can ensure you have a healthy diet of positive strokes to feel happy, fulfilled, confident and sky rocket your self-esteem.

You can find Andy and Maria located on level 2 outside Superdry.

The workshop will take place in an empty shop unit at 1:00pm and 3:00pm on Sunday, 20 May. Please meet Andy outside Superdry 10 minutes prior to the class and he will who will direct you to the location.
